A drone attack on Moscow damaged two office buildings, said the mayor of the capital city Sergei Sobyanin. The drone was fired by Ukraine, late at night.

There were no injuries reported in the attack. The mayor said that facades of two office towers suffered slight damage in the attack. There were no injuries or loss of life in the attack, added Sobyanin.

The attack on the Russian capital comes just a day after the Russian forces attacked Ukraine’s Dnipro city. Russian missiles had injured 9 people in Ukraine on Friday. The injured included 2 children.  The Russian missiles had also hit 2 buildings in Dnipro. One of the buildings hit was a large residential building, which was completely destroyed in the attack.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that apart from the residential tower, a building of the country’s security services was also hit. The President termed the attack as “Russian missile terror”.  There were no deaths reported even in the strike in Ukraine. This was the third time however that the building of the security services known as the SBU was targeted by Russia.

Moscow has largely not been attacked in the long drawn war between the two countries, but this year has been different. Drones have been fired at the Kremlin and Russian towns near the border with Ukraine this year with an increased frequency.

According to latest reports the capital’s Vnukovo International Airport has been closed for traffic. The Russian media reported, “The capital’s Vnukovo airport is closed for departures and arrivals, flights are redirected to other airports.” The media quoted the Russian aviation services for the inputs on flight diversions and airport closure.

In a statement the Russian Defence Ministry termed the attack as a terrorist attack. It said, “The Kyiv regime’s attempted terrorist attack with unmanned aerial vehicles on objects in the city of Moscow was thwarted.” They also claimed to have shot down one drone and suppressed two others through electronic warfare which eventually crashed into a building.
